San Diego Air & Space Museum Offers Scholarship Opportunities April 1st Application deadline

(February 5, 2007) - The San Diego Air & Space Museum is proud to offer several scholarship opportunities to San Diego graduating seniors.

The Museum is committed to inspiring young people of all ages to excel in math and the sciences, and administers several competitive scholarships. Since 1989 the Museum has awarded over 140 scholarships totaling $388,400 to San Diego area high school graduating seniors embarking on engineering and aerospace careers. The Museum proudly stands behind its mission by distributing yearly awards from its three scholarship endowments - the Convair Alumni Association, Bill Gibbs, and R.A. Rearwin programs.

Applications must be received by the Museum no later than April 1, 2007 to be considered.

The Bill Gibbs and R. A. Rearwin scholarships are for students with strong aviation/aerospace career interests who are pursuing a degree in math, physics, science, or engineering.

The Convair Alumni Association Scholarship Fund is for direct descendants (natural or adopted) of former San Diego area employees of Consolidated Aircraft Corporation, Consolidated Vultee Aircraft Corporation, or General Dynamics Corporation.

Established in 2000 to honor the legacy of longtime board member Kenneth A. Rearwin, the R.A. Rearwin Fund has distributed awards to 11 area seniors totaling $26,800. The Convair Alumni Association has distributed $220,600 to 66 area seniors, and 65 seniors have been awarded $141,000 through the Bill Gibbs Scholarship Fund.
