Women of Flight

The San Diego Air & Space Museum is developing a series of exhibits highlighting the historic and on-going role of women in aviation. Phase One of Women of Flight, is scheduled to open on May 24th 2007, corresponding with the 75th anniversary of Amelia Earhart's historic solo flight across the Atlantic in May 1932.

The exhibit, Women of Flight: Aerobatics, will be a self-guided exhibit featuring the historic and contemporary images and artifacts of renowned and forgotten women aerobatic pilots. A Kiosk station will be set up for the visitors to view video clips of women performing aerobatic maneuvers and learn the basics of aerobatic flight. The primary focus of the exhibit will be a Pitts Special, one of the more historically popular aerobatic planes. Additional phases will follow for the Women of Flight exhibits, stay tuned.
